The median Aberdeen, Wash., home value is $88,200, but Kurt Cobain's childhood home is listed for $500,000. For the late Nirvana frontman's fans, however, it's might be a small price to pay for the memories created within the home's four walls.

"Certain personalities garner additional value to their homes," said Billy Rose, president of real estate brokerage The Agency, which is handling marketing of the home. "Kurt is someone who, like Marilyn [Monroe] and James Dean, met an unfortunate early death. This is a way we can remain in touch with him."

Cobain's first nine years and his teenage life from age 16 to about 20 were spent at 1210 E 1st St, Aberdeen, Wash., 98520. His parents bought the four-bedroom home when he was just a few months old and separated when he was a boy. His mom, Wendy O'Connor, has since been the sole owner of the property.

The Craftsman-style bungalow is also filled with memories of a smiling Cobain playing piano as a boy.

"He got up every day with such joy that there was another day to be had," his mother told Rolling Stone two years before his death. "When we'd go downtown to the stores, he would sing to people. ... It kind of scared me because he had perceptions like I've never seen a small child have."

The home's garage is where Cobain and Krist Novoselic practiced in the '80s, forming the beginnings of Nirvana. Since its debut, the band has sold 25 million records in the U.S. alone. This month marks the 20th anniversary of the band's final studio album, "In Utero."

Built in 1923, the house would need to be renovated to include modern amenities. However, it's possible the home won't be used as a primary residence.

"Whether someone would live there, own it but live somewhere else, or turn it into an attraction -- it's always surprising what someone wants to do with these kinds of homes," Rose said.

Many rock legend homes become destination landmarks restored to how they appeared when the musician lived there. Other former musicians' homes have been used as vacation rentals. Only time will tell what a prospective buyer wants to do with Cobain's former home. The listing is held by Nancy Taylor of Aberdeen Realty, Inc.
